Cubadisco has Already Begun
gloriaThe XVII edition of Cubadisco International Fair is already a fact, as it was confirmed this Tuesday in a press conference in which all the program scheduled for such event was offered. On this occasion dedicated to young people, concert music and violin. Even the event starts on May 18th to 26th, many activities have been held as conferences, workshops, music presentations, the National Competition of Violin Interpretation, with the participation of elementary school students at Superior Institute of Art.

Gloria Ochoa, president of the Organizing Committee and First Vice President of Cuban Institute of Music, noticed that it will be reinforced  by selling products of our record labels (EGREM, Colibri, BisMusic ,La Ceiba), many foreign labels settled in our country and Cultural ALBA. Besides CDs, musical scores, music books, instruments and lined paper could be acquired in national currency.  The opening gala will be celebrated on Sunday 19th at 10:00am at Covarrubias room in the National Theater of Cuba performing the National Symphony Orchestra led by Enrique Perez Mesa accompanied by Frank Fernandez and recognized Cuban and foreign violinists as Eva Steinsleger and Jorge Saade from Ecuador, the guest of honor country.

On May 18th and 19th will be the award ceremony at Avellaneda room at the National Theater. The Grand Prix will be delivered and 100 Cuban violinists will perform. This Cuban festivity will be the main stage to present many of our symphonic orchestras on 23th, 24th and 25th, all accompanied by Javier Zalba (saxophone), Harold Lopez-Nussa (piano) ,Barbara Llanes ( soprano) and Joaquin Clerch (guitar). These two last ones are also attending the closing gala to be held on May 26th in the same stage and as a tribute to Colibri Productions in its 10th anniversary.

Two special concerts will be given at Karl Marz theater: Buena fe is presenting David de Maria, a Spanish singer nominated to the International Prize ( Friday 17th)  and also Pablo Milanes ( Sunday 26th); besides galas  “ Te quedaras” ( Wednesday 24th,8:30pm), a tribute to Benny Moré organized by EGREM celebrating its 50th anniversary and “ Locos por la musica” celebrating the 20th anniversary of BisMusic.

As a tribute to the Bolivarian leader Hugo Chavez in la Casa del Alba will be performed a concert by many Cuban, Ecuadorian, Venezuelan, Angolan, Spanish and Puerto Rican musician, among others and the Brouwer Flamenco at the National Theater (Saturday 25th).  Pabellon Cuba, space dedicated to young people, is opening on May 21st and the Salon Rosado de la Tropical will be presenting the main Cuban dance groups. The International Symposium to be held at the Center for Research and Development of Cuban Music is aimed to think in the cultural industry, the record production and the violin.

violinadaCuban violinist Alfredo Muñoz, president of honor of this event, noticed the performing of a special gala by 100 Cuban violinists. Cubadisco will pay tribute to outstanding soloists as the anonymous violinists’ heroes. “The violin has many facets: mariachi, gitano, jazz man, charanguero and symphonic: it is not intended to only focus on the soloist´s smoking but also all his possibilities and faces”, he assured.

For Muñoz, “the big violin concert” scheduled for the opening gala symbolizes the generational replace guaranteeing the continuity of defending this instrument”. The Ecuadorian Jorge Saade will perform the first concert for violin composed in his country by Jorge Oviedo, which it is considered an honor and a challenge, for being the cradle of Jose White.
Violin is a fascinating instrument, having a woman silhouette, and as women when go deep inside, it is hard to take them out”, Saade joked, the cultural organizer of Guayaquil. Ecuador is the guest of honor country redoubling its commercial character, without neglecting the theoretical debates regarding the development of discography.
