Dedicted to Africa and its diaspora; music and poetry

The Center for the Research and Development of the Cuban music and the Cuban Institute of Music announce the International Symposium that will be held from May 19 to 23 within the framework of the XII International Fair Cubadisco 2008 which could be attended by musicologists, researchers, writers, musicians, poets, anthropologists, critics, entrepreneurs, promoters, students and other specialists interested in deepening on the reference topics.
The program includes papers, lectures, discussion panel, special presentations, workshops, books launching, magazines, documentaries showing, music recital and visits to interesting places.
Topics
Africa and its history, oral, literary and musical traditions
African influence on the traditional popular festivities
Oral transmission literature of African origin
Music and poetry: two universal communication systems
New tendencies on the musical creation and industry
Preservation of the living cultural heritage
Technical norms to present works and summaries
PAPER Title, summary with no more than 250 words, version on 9 pages at most of double-spaced typing, equivalent to 2500 words. Exposition time for papers will not exceed 20 minutes
CONFERENCE
Title, summary with no more than 100 words, written version of the presentation. Exposition time for lecture will not exceed 50 minutes.
DOCUMENTARIES SHOWING AND MUSIC RECITAL Name of the show/documentary, name of the artists. It will not exceed 50 minutes.
SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS Open space (up to an hour and a half) to any kind of critical-analytical special presentation with interactive means and action by specialists and/or public.
In all kind of musicological actions or artistic-musical presentation, it must be consigned a summary of the professional résumé including all personal information and location, city and country, and technical needs to illustrate such exposition or presentation.
WORKSHOPS
Topic, objectives. Workshop time will not exceed 50 minutes.
DISCUSSION PANELS
