A new era has hardly begun.

Quality, amount and speed of communication and the new technologies have achieved, among other factors, the inauguration of the globalized world.The "planetary village"….a kind of virtual playground, where just 4 multinational (record) companies are able to decide what kind of music the entire world is going to listen to or what kind of clothes we´ll have to put on next year; where a handful of news stations decide - just like in a cliche-ridden western - which are the good boys and which are the bad ones, whereas we are supposed to belong to the latter.

At the beginning of this third millennium, with mechanisms of manipulation just as powerful as sophisticated and effective, the common people - root and destination of our "canto" - more than ever need to recognize their own voice and understand the other, the one of the fellow man, different and imperative by definition.

The music that has accompanied and still accompanies the human beeing in the fiercest quarrels and in the most intimate act of love, has also been used by the powerful, as a weapon of domination with pretensions to erase our memory and autochthonous history and to drive us into the clutches of educational deficiency and shallowness.

Music of the worst quality, with lyrics or without, has been modelled into an easy-going and repetitive llulaby that makes us sing and hum until we forget our own identity and origin.
The music clad in pinchbeck-glare and spangles has also been a manifestation of the most primitive junk. The Human being is in need of a tune that connects him and bestows dignity upon him, a tune that provides the melting-pot and the forging hammer for his deepest yearnings, communicating itself through relish and spirituality. Man needs a meaningful song

We´re referring to the love song that expresses the tenderness and dissent of a couple or the society on the whole. We´re referring to the lament and outburst in the improvisation of Jazz, speaking about bitterness and happiness of the ever forgotten. We´re referring to the folk song and the original and unspoiled tradition, to the African songs, the secular and the ritual ones. We´re talking about rock-music in it´s sincerest form, expressing the rebelliousness of a young generation in want of a better world. We´re talking about pop music and the ballad, possessing agreeable and attractive modalities and projections. We´re talking about the symphony, that makes us shiver and aware of the fact that the distincion between the complex and the popular is only an euphemistic classification, but also a hegemonic pretension of those who think themselves better condicioned to understand it. We´re referring to the tender and intructive nursery rhyme, that enchants us; to the danceable popular music, that makes us move and allows us to express on the physical level all our spiritual energy we hold inside; to the lyrical song and the operatic aria, that allows us to partake in the tragedy and the comedy shown on the stage as part of our life .

We´re talking about every kind of music able to make vibrate the strings of our intimate yearnings, elevating us to a true spiritual and social existence, dedicated to the passionate struggle for our identity. We´re talking about the "Canción Necesaria", the specific revelation of the feelings and sufferings within each social group, the way they love and construct their own reality, carrier of an identity that originates in diversity, in the very specific, and therefore bound to be eradicated, absorbed by a standardized fashion, which wreaks havoc, although denominated as "light".

"I´m harassed by the pale face, by its interpretation of esthetic, by its angle, by its style, by its smartness", said the poet. Our song, our music will be reflexion, denunciation against the "pale face", and revelation of the agitation, dreams and struggles of our fellow man. Let´s play the trumpets, the guitars, the Tres, the Cuatro, the pianos, the drums, the flutes, the bagpipes, the harps, the chequerés, the maracas in this Island of music, where music is shield and sword.
